DET have increased their drop in facilities to include Annfield Plain Library every Tuesday.
Chris Walby is there between 10am-12 noon to chat to local residents who are looking to get back to work. Chris has seen over a dozen people so far and has already had some success.
Alison, Catchgate started work the end of February as an Administrator doing Permitted Work initially. As she grows confident within the role Alison expects to do fulltime hours and come off Incapacity Benefit altogether.
Chris who has also helped 2 people she met at the library set up in Self Employment explained, “The Library at Annfield Plain is really well used, and has a really strong community feel to it, the atmosphere is very relaxed and informal which is helpful to our customers and makes them feel more comfortable and receptive to the thought of going back to work”
In addition to the drop in the library also has some other useful services including; a bank of PC’s, email address set up, Jobsboard, Community Room, and access to training.

Derwentside Employment team are set to continue supporting the residents within Derwentside in accessing training and moving into work.
After a very fruitful first 16mths when we were able to support 600 residents into work we have secured funding through Derwentside District Council to continue offering this service.
Derwentside Employment Team will continue with community drop ins throughout the District offering support to people who are looking to get back into work and access training.
We also intend to hold “Better life” Events across the district to showcase the wide range of help and financial support available for sick and disabled customers.
The very successful self esteem/confidence workshops are set to continue into 2008/09.
This year we want to expand our work with local employers with the aim of securing opportunities for our clients as well as offering support to the employers in their training and recruitment needs.
So please remember that friendly Derwentside Employment team made up of myself, Bernie, Lara, Angeline, Maureen, Chris, Darren and Martina are here to give guidance and support on your route to employment.
