Judith Vincent is back on track after Derwentside Employment Team helped her get the 2nd chance she deserved.
It was June last year when Judith had to give up work due to problems with her knees. As she became well again she found it difficult to get back into the industry she loved, Customer Service.
Paul Marshall Manager of the Green Corridor Partnership said “I met with Helen Harber, new Annfield Plain Tesco’s Manager to discuss how Tesco’s could support local economy and communities.
I invited Derwentside Employment Team into the discussions and we designed a recruitment exercise jointly to meet the needs of unemployed residents of Stanley.”
Derwentside Employment Team offered to select a number of people who had previously faced barriers to gaining employment and negotiated guaranteed interviews for the selected individuals following an information session with the Tesco’s Recruitment Team.
The result; 9 people iincluding Judith started work in September and a further 3 will be contacted when suitable positions become available.
For the remaining candidates, constructive feedback was provided enabling Derwentside Employment Team and the customer to use the information to move forward.
Bernie, DET Manager said “It was very reassuring that a national company like Tesco’s took the time out at local level to support employability in the community”
All in all it was an extremely positive exercise and a wonderful example of
how partnership work can maximise the support for all our customers and help employers recruit local people for local jobs.
